MICHIGAN MOTORCYCLE SAFETY PROGRAM
DID YOU KNOW THAT CERTIFIED MOTORCYCLE SAFETY INSTRUCTORS HAVE TAUGHT MORE THAN 50,000 STUDENTS IN THE STATE OF MICHIGAN?
There are currently about 180 certified motorcycle safety instructors and 4 Chief Instructors in the State of Michigan. The main objective is to provide a qualified learning environment to enable the novice and experienced rider to attain and upgrade necessary skills for safer riding on the public roadways.
DID YOU KNOW THAT MOTORCYCLISTS PAY FOR THIS SAFETY PROGRAM THROUGH RENEWAL AND REGISTRATION FEES?
In 1982, ABATE of Michigan, Inc. was successful in implementing the fee structure to fund the Safety Program. In 1989, 1996, and 1997 the funding had to be increased to support the demand for safety classes and ABATE helped to privatize the State motorcycle skills test. At present, the majority of the safety classes are taught in the Detroit Metro area.

Accidents and fatalities can be greatly reduced by education and awareness. Motorcyclists are doing their part and by implementing awareness and safety programs, accidents/fatalities are being reduced.
